According to police spokesperson Constable Thabang Nkhumise, the 32-year-old suspect was part of a group of females who spiked drinks belonging to men in hopes to go home with them and steal their belongings.
Nkhumise said this group of women have been terrorizing unsuspecting men at various drinking spots, especially the Blue Room Central pub in Pretoria Central.
“Seemingly, the females will leave the pubs with the intoxicated male victims to their homes and steal their property.
In one such incident, a laptop, Huawei P30 lite cellphone and a pair of sunglasses valued at R7 000 were stolen.
Nkhumise said a victim lodged a complaint with the police on Sunday morning, stating that his drink was spiked by the women who then went home with him to steal his belongings.
He said the police opened a case of theft against the women and began preliminary investigations to nab the group.
“We began the investigation and tracing process and managed to arrest one of the group members around Sammy Marks Square in the CBD.
“She was immediately arrested and charged with theft,” he said.
“The station commander urges club- and pub-goers to be vigilant and be aware of such criminal acts as this has been an ongoing trend that targets men.
He also urged men to refrain from picking up unknown females and taking them home because it was dangerous.
Nkhumise said further investigations are underway to ensure that other accomplices linked with similar cases are brought to book.
