Our children are being murdered!

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart said the incident occurred in Kamesh at approximately 7:45.

The 15-year-old, Ferguson Volminck, was walking along McCarthy Street on his way to school when he was approached by a group. He was allegedly stabbed in the chest with a knife.

“Volminck’s father was informed about the incident and rushed his son to a local hospital for medical treatment, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries,” said Swart.

Detectives from the Kamesh police station managed to track down two suspects on the same day, including another teenager.

Two men – aged 16 and 21 – were arrested at their respective homes at approximately 17:50. The motive for the 15-year-old’s murder is yet to be established and the investigation continues.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Kariega Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 2 September, charged with murder.

In an unrelated incident, in the Eastern Cape, a 15-year-old boy was allegedly hacked to death on school grounds during a fight.

And again, an incident on the 23 August, A 15-year-old boy was allegedly killed by other high schoolers on the premises of Msebe Senior Secondary School in Cofimvaba, Eastern Cape.

According to SABC News, the deceased was a learner at Arthur Mfebe High School. He was killed when two groups of school boys fought inside Msebe Secondary on Tuesday. The fight allegedly stemmed from a factional dispute in a nearby neighbourhood.

The grade nine learner was allegedly hacked to death – witnesses of the attack, which occurred in front of teachers and learners alike, said the assailants entered the school grounds and attacked the victim. The 15-year-old was buried in Chris Hani East on Saturday.

Eastern Cape Education spokesperson, Malibongwe Mtima, said the department is working to curb such incidents. One of the ways they are hoping to accomplish this is by introducing learners to reformed young men who are in prison as a way to teach boys about the repercussions of criminal activity.

“As the department, we have adopted a multi-stakeholder approach where we will be working with police local traditional leaders and other stakeholders to make sure we nib out this thing,” he said to SABC News.

The Eastern Cape education is still investigating the attack.
